Classvero is designed primarily for educators and school personnel. This statement explains how we approach student privacy, COPPA compliance, and the limited student-facing features of the platform.
1. Teacher-Facing Tools (Primary Use)
The majority of Classvero's features — lesson planning, AI support, assessments, reflections — are used exclusively by educators. These tools:
Do not require student accounts or student logins
Do not require student personally identifiable information (PII), and instruct educators not to enter it
Are governed by FERPA educator controls
2. Live Check — Student Participation
Teachers may publish Live Checks that students join using a teacher-provided access code. This feature is specifically designed to protect student privacy:
No student accounts created. Students do not register or log in with any credentials.
Name is optional. Students may enter a first name, nickname or display name; a full name is never required.
Direct identifiers are prohibited. The service rejects email addresses and phone numbers.
Session-scoped. Live Check responses are linked only to the session capability and alias.
Teacher-controlled. The teacher controls when the Live Check is open and closed; results are visible only to the teacher.
Short retention. Closing a Live Check deletes its student session and response records immediately. Expired records are also eligible for lifecycle cleanup.
Teacher Responsibility: Teachers decide how students identify themselves in a session. A first name, initials or a nickname is enough; full names are not needed.
3. COPPA (Children Under 13)
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) prohibits online services from collecting personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Classverocomplies with COPPA by:
Not requiring any registration or account creation from students of any age
Not requesting names, email addresses, phone numbers, photos, or other direct identifiers from students
Not creating persistent profiles for any student
Not engaging in behavioral advertising targeting students
Providing teacher-controlled deletion when a Live Check is closed and short-lived session capabilities
Live Check participation is designed not to require direct student identifiers. Schools and teachers remain responsible for using the feature in accordance with their COPPA/FERPA obligations and for preventing students from entering identifying information in alias or response fields.
4. FERPA & School Control
Under FERPA, schools control student education records. Classvero:
Acts as a school official only when contracted by a school or district
Processes education records solely under school authorization
Does not disclose student education records to third parties without school consent
Provides schools full control and deletion rights over any student data
Classvero is built on a data minimization philosophy: we collect the least amount of data necessary to provide the Service. For student-adjacent features, this means:
Anonymous participation wherever student involvement is needed
No student login, profile, or persistent identity
Session-only data that expires with the activity
No cross-session tracking of students
6. Information for Parents & Guardians
If your child participates in a Classvero Live Check through their school:
Your child only needs a first name, nickname or initials to join; no account is created
Live Check responses are visible only to the teacher who owns the session
No student account is created; closing the Live Check deletes its student session and response records
Your child's school controls the use of this tool
If you have concerns about your child's data or believe any personal information was submitted, contact us at support@classvero.com and we will investigate and delete any such data promptly.
